Although I couldn't be there until the end due to family reasons, I must say it's always nice to take points off Masters!  Must be something to do with them thinking they are better than they are... Always the bridesmaids... lol!

Not heard the final match report yet but no doubt Thorpey will update me in the morning

Well done boys.

6-6 Masters Vs Rileys....

And what happens instead of being gracious in defeat..... WOBBLE WOBBLE, they spit there dummies out and leave being mardy ( No suprise there then )... although a few came up and said well played, a few players was grumpy and mardy. Its hard to play this game and understand why things happen the way they do....

Notts is the best / hardest league to win and Rileys ( Us ) wanting to beat you should be a compliment with the side we have, And the side you have. The Masters way is to always think they are better !!!!. we have a good side and enjoy the nobble..... Maybe you lads should enjoy it for what it is a game of pool and you might get a litte closer to the title.........

P/S good luck next season LOL

Good result, there are clearly 4 teams in this league where there is nothing between them - masters, cherry, rileys a & park tavern, all capable of beating each other. The Rileys One are just that tad better than the rest though and have demonstrated that this season, well done Rileys One, we look forward to playing you next week then Rileys A for the battle for 3rd spot, well done to the Masters for runners up, you should be proud of achieving that at least.

Spot on B went down 7-5 to Tavern with a coupel of throw away legs and old man Ray beating James Hill for nothing in the last leg lol well played Ray to lead James into the trap lol

Well played Rileys One, strongest and most consistant team by far this season.

Rileys's B played host to the Div 2 league leaders Sun Valley Mens. The match ended 8-4 to Riley's B.

Good look for the rest of the season, see you in the plate final.

All of the pre-match banter counted for little except to pile untold pressure on the Masters’ Perennial bridesmaids as they attempted to hurdle the first of their three must-win games against Malc Marriott’s Riley’s ‘A’. Some of the Riley’s One team turned up to ‘cheer-on’ the Basford wannabes in their quest to win their first ever NOPPL Premier One title. Ironically on the other match table the Premier Two title was up for grabs with the already promoted Sun Valley needing just one point against Kev Lane’s second placed Riley’s ‘B’. So the scene was set for the epic battles in both divisions to commence.
Tom Barker for Masters and Mick Egan for Riley’s both threw chances away in the opener, with Tom taking advantage of  the ‘Ege’s’ final error to put the visitors in front. Paul McNicol lost to an out of sorts Olly Brooks to level matters.

Masters took the first pairs through evergreen Bill Rigby and the redolent Jay Ward (quality cut on his final red) against the Ginger Ninja and Gaz Sherwood, only for Riley’s Curtis Bradley and Martin Lovett to take the next two legs against Jay Ward and rising England star Ryan Hewitt. The banter was flying low now and with quips coming in from all angles including neutrals, large cracks were appearing in the Master’s gossamer armoury.

Riley’s twin towers, Farmer Leese and Martin Lovenest took the next pairs in a closely fought leg against County ‘B’ manager Ron ‘The Glove’ Sharpe and England youth Craptain, the split toe mid-wife-shoe-wearing Ashley ‘Donut’ Radford to put Riley’s into a commanding 4-2 lead. Ashley was very unlucky going in off the black after a superb dish, but with a little more experience he will be able to spot the more obvious in-offs!

Loz ‘Cue-Chucker’ Sanderson, now between a rock and a hard place, threw the dice and veteran Bill Rigby didn’t disappoint his captain with a quality finish, rolling back the years against Riley’s averages leader Andy Leese.

Matt Coates, out way after his bed time, took advantage of a largish piece of good fortune against Gaz Sherwood who had the game under control only to fall out of position and gift the frame to the handsome one, but to be fair to Matt he was only cocky after the black went in.

So with the scores level 4-4 Loz stepped in to steady the ship with Ned Kelley, but even though playing well all did not go to the master plan and with two shots gained from Chris Taylors safety, Olly Brooks failed to clear one ball and the black when an easy safety beckoned.

Masters in front for the first time tried to press home their slender advantage with Loz taking on the inebriated Marcus Langford. ‘Tank’ missed a succession of easy pots with the watching league leaders rolling their eyes in less than subtle disapproval. The masters captain gained control but let the occasion get to him and ‘Tank’ rediscovered his form to level the scores once again.

There was a theme developing in the latter stages as the wobbling Lee Thorpe took on sober Ashley of the mid-wife’s shoes. A series of easy pots missed by Bilko, control gained and then thrown away by the mid-wife, only for Lee ‘Bilko’ Thorpe to rediscover his potting but then squander the guilt edged 2 shot opportunity and leave ‘Donut’ with black on the pocket! A funny game pool eh?

So Masters went one frame up again and only needed the last leg to keep their hopes of the title alive. Those hopes were carried on the shoulders of Ned Kelley as he faced Riley’s Dale ‘Crazy’ Mayes. Dale as usual went off like a train, eventually leaving his last ball over the pocket. Some good safety play saw Neil gain 2 shots but he couldn’t find a way to break his 2 balls and the black from around Dale’s ball on the pocket. So he broke one out and laid on a long snooker. Dale got down found more than a thin edge and the pool gods were kind as the white weaved through traffic to line up on the black. Dale although Chinese snookered stroked the long black in and the watching throngs celebrated mildly enough.

The match ended all square and when the dust settled, it was Riley’s ‘A’ stable-mates who were the happier on the night as the door that was about to be slammed shut on them retaining their title was wedged firmly open.
Riley’s ‘A’ lost ground in the battle with Cherry Tree for third place as they beat Royal Oak and Masters are left hoping for a miracle.
In the Premier Two top of the table clash on the other table Sun Valley missed their opportunity to clinch the title and I will report as and when the match sheet comes in.
