You see this is what i was on about "rule freaks" needing to get out more...Enter (not aloud out much) suspect No1 PI!!! Our player didn't play out of turn nor did he approach the table in the manner of playing out of turn he simply was talking to his partner about the shot and bent down to look to see if a ball passed and where the white was going to land and in the process touched the table, probably for the purpose of balance! now if you're the type of man to call two shots for that, well shame on you too!!!

I have been informed that Riley’s B has disbanded, five of them signing for Park Tavern. Jolly’s should have had a home match with them this week, I was in the process of telling the Landlord to cancel the food, but if the remaining Riley’s players want to carry on please let me know a.s.p, other wise there will no food.

been in similar situation with Trev Burton as my partner and also Pat Kelley as my partner and have never took 2 shots. the rule is being missinterpreted in that situation. as i said i would always agree with opponents its ok to talk untill a shot has been played. im sure Pat will back me up on this. i have however been on the recieving end of the example Ady gave, we where playing in the notts and dist mon league cant remember who it was but think its a joke. if you are in a big comp then a good ref will warn all the players that this results in a foul and then fare enough but as i said in the context of the match we are discusssing its not really in the spirit of the game is it? worst example i have seen is at yarmouth where a player played a shot with the cueball near the cushion and played a shot, missed the pot, stood back for about 4 or 5 seconds, noticed he'd left a chalk mark on the cushion, leaned forward rubbed it off and got called for playing out of turn. couldnt believe it. that was one of the refs wandering about.

The Referee should not call a foul in the first instance, he should firstly give a warning, this can be when it happens, or at the start of a match ( as per the final warning at Yarmouth regarding barracking etc) --Last edited by pm on 2009-11-11 16:10:17 --

So what is the final concensus? PM says it should be a warning in the first instance (and this was the first instance). Liam says it's a foul, and in the rules as such, but I've not seen it it anywhere. Still none the wiser. |

Surely it depends on if the player touch the table or the baize (cloth)? In singles it is out of turn when touching the baize and a foul. In pairs if the player whos shot it is touches the table then there is a warning if communication between the 2 continues. As for the player in pairs whos turn it isn't and he touches the baize then that is a foul. Merely collecting chalk of the table is not seen as a foul because it's the table and not the baize where the chalk would be, but is seen as not in the spirit of the game. So I think if it's a pairs game and a player goes to take a shot out of turn and has touched the baize it's a foul but most teams wouldn't call it if the shot hadn't been played. Always call it if the shot has been played though. Touching the table between shots should have 1 warning then give a foul after. In your case ady if he touched the table and not the baize it wasn't a foul anyway! --Last edited by macky on 2009-11-12 21:53:41 -- |

its nothing to do with wether its baize or not. its all down to league rules. my point is merely that in doubles you gain no advantage talking after you touch the table just leaning on the side rail was enough to cost me 2 visits as prev stated. for gods sake common sense is required sometimes.

Ron is correct in his previous posts that if a player playing pairs and it is not his shot touches ANY part of the table intentionaly or not then this is deemed a foul in most leagues. I played against the March Hare with Ron. We were both looking at a shot and I being old, helped myself up using the table and a foul was called. This rule as stupid as it is, is in the N&D rules. Just ask Cory. Nuff said, no comments on the old bit please, I have feeling.

Was only stating what I thought, never said it was gospel. I'm sure i've read somewhere that it has to be the cloth? Hey if Ron says it's that way then surely it must be! |
