Might be an idea to guess out of all these - who is actually going to turn up at the trials and then who will turn out for the County every match?

It really does seem such a shame that all this lot are playing for a maximum of 10 squad places, many more would stengthen the squad

I have been in contact with most of the trialists over many months now and if they get through trials, they will turn up to the County matches. However, I am aware that there are a few players that are not going to commit to a full season, and I say to them if you are not prepared to commit to County then don't trial. There are a lot of trialists this year that are desperate to play County pool and it would be unfair to affect some players stats at trials if you have no intention of playing for your County. There are some top names trialing this season which is great for Notts. These players will be seeded to avoid any groups of death where possible. But even then I don't think looking down the list anyone is going to have it easy. I would like to wish everyone the best of luck and a happy new year.

There was talk of a few counties putting a "c" side forward for friendlies. This would be a good idea so new players can be blooded. As usual there will be surprise packages and good players not performing on the day.I will go along for the names which have been mentioned so far,but also look out for Graham Cliffe,Shane Robinson and Dale Mellor.

Tony, I totally agree it is a great shame that we can't accommodate all these Trialists into the squad. I would love to have 25-30 players every match to pick from but a squad of that size would cause so many other problems. I can't see players turning up to every game with only a slim chance of playing.

For the last ten years that I know to, players could just turn up to County and play. This in my opinion does not attach any prestiege to being a County player, with over 40 Re-trialists and Trialists competing against each other, at the trials for only a few places on the 11th Jan 2009.
For the players that do make the squad it will be like winning a singles title in Notts and this is how it should be.

The County sides over the years in my opinion have under achieved. With the talented players we have in Notts we should be doing better. Our young guns need to start firing and our established players need to be on their game every match. Lets build on last season and cut out these silly losses that cost us a place in the finals. Notts County sides can compete with Staffs and Leicester, we proved it last season - but to win the region we have to play as a team, stick together, win or lose. But most of all we need the passion, commitment and the hunger to win. Staffs and Leicester have it - we are getting there.

anything can happen over one match, but a full days play over longer framed matches will sort out the pecking order, altho the trials will be difficult to qualify from
