To be honest it is pretty poor when only 17 players turn up!! Loads of people go on about there not being tournaments/ comps etc... Then when these are put on nobody bothers to come!!

To be honest I wouldn't blame Curtis or Daz Finch if they never run another comp again in Notts , waste of their time!!

Yes I agree, come on lads n lasses, at least make a call!
Biut soul destroying for the organisers.
Kurdish, you still need to keep it together and make it enjoyable for the lads that do make the effort.

NK is right there. Curtis has made the effort but others havent, but you cant force players to enter at the end of the day. I set up the Notts Tour, got sponsorship in, put in a lot of work cos i thought the pool playing community of Notts wanted things like that but its clear they dont. Then players complain when Leicester and Derby players win these comps.

Still, like i say, you cant force people to enter if they arent interested.

Well done on Saturday anyway Curtis, im sure it was a good day and as long as those 17 entrants enjoyed it thats all that matters.

I made the mistake of letting people pay on the day. Next time i run another tournament, IF i run another tournament, i will make sure entrants pay up front and will not include myself so it can be run properly! Hopefully then it will be a good day out!

Ady's right, if you're going to do it then do it properly but i can understand Curtis feeling dejected if he felt he'd been messed about.

I think the main problem is there are only probably half a dozen players in Notts who are really interested in playing at a decent level. The rest think once a month at interleague or county qualifies them to be top players. Some players think they're doing me a favour entering my events lol.

The better comps are outside the county but when someone does take the time to bring good events to the area they arent supported. Until you can change that attitude you're flogging a dead horse.

I don't think that's very fair. Surely the comps are not run purely for players wanting to play at a "decent level". I could name several of the players who were there on Saturday who enter the competitions because they enjoy pool and enjoy the day out.
The main problem is that people say that they are entering and then either do not turn up on the day or let the organizer know a few hours before the comp, leaving it impossible for the organizer to fill the spaces.
Most of the comps that are posted on here usually have plenty of people entering initially, then as it gets closer, the numbers seem to dwindle.
Anyway, that said, I think that myself, Ady and Gaz did Kurdish a big favour by entering his event. smile/!hinhin.gif  smile/!hinhin.gif

I run very succesful comps and I still enter myself. You need to be committed whatever the turnout Kurdish. I have tried getting money in beforehand, it does not work mate. I get letdown's too mate but I ring/text people nyself 1 week beforehand to remind people, sad I know but pwopl do turn up.

It could just be that people had other things on, though its bad form to say you'll enter then not bother.

I remember running a comp in Derby 3 years ago and we said anyone who puts their name down commits to the event so no time wasters please. We even did an advanced draw. Out of 48 who said they'd enter only 4 didnt turn up (a car load of lads from Stoke) and, to this day, i dont let them into my comps when they try to enter cos as far as im concerned they each owe me £20 from that tourny 3 years ago. Everyone else paid so why shouldnt they, they entered after all. All im saying is that seemed to work (largely).

If i put my name down mate! i turn up,never paid up front and have no intentions to,what i am trying to say is "horses for courses"....if a player puts his name down and in the past he has not turned up without cancelling then that individual needs to pay up front to be entered, easy!
If all competitors who enter tell there respective teams about the comps (as not all players have computers) maybe through this insight more players might enter,i have got a couple of extra players doing just that and i have other people interested in future comps!so if your in it and turning up tell all the people you know and maybe every comp will be full up!

PS..This none county fixture will defo get bigger and bigger as everyone ive tried to get entered have said they will join some in the future!

Kurdish,

No-one said running a tournament was easy, in fact it remains a pretty thankless task most of the time, but running a tournament at Rileys has got to be harder than most venues.  You've got no easy parking, the beer is way overpriced and everyone thinks that the turn out won't be great which in turn reduces the turn out.

To give yourself the best chance of a good turnout you could guarantee a minimum first prize, put a drinks promo on for the players, advertise that you're providing food and constanly promote it.  This means ringing people way in advance and more than once, chasing them up at pool matches, getting any advance cash where you can and being positive about it at all times.  Probably Daz's best attribute is he's constantly in contact with the usual suspects to get them there every tournament.

Don't give up lad, live and learn - I'll turn out for you if I'm the only player!!

£5 to the winner, £5 entry!

lol

It's a wash kid....you're in Atlantic City now, not back in the Stock Room playing with baby dolls.

What im saying is that if someone asks to put their name down they are asking to enter the tournament, in other words they've agreed to be there and pay whatever it is the entry fee is. If they dont turn up they should still pay the entry fee they agreed to pay!

"Pay on the day" events are always the hardest to run. You cant do an advanced draw which means some people waiting 2, maybe more, hours for a game and as an organiser you're always fretting on certain usual people who wont volunteer to pay you have to keep asking and asking them before they cough up. But these are the first ones to complain when the numbers are down and the prize money is affected.

I bet these people who dont like to pay in advance do so for EPA events like interleague and champion of champions, cos they dont have a choice!

Having spent a lot of time setting up a Notts Tour and decent one-day events, only to be messed around, any events i run in Notts in the future will be advanced paid entry only cos its the only way im afraid, and id advise Curtis and others to do the same.
