Willie Thorne was arguably the best potter & break builder of his era but didn`t possess a good tactical game. The game is not just about potting - only when the balls are on!

Willie Thorne the best potter/break builder?

Are you serious? lol

Also part of the reason i dont play safety shots is I prefer to go for them, I can't be a***d pissing about for 1/2 hour touching up, and probably lose the frame.

It's different in a team match, but my singles matches I go for pretty much everything.
I go by the old saying "If it doesn't go, make it go"

He made one 147 in competition, the rest were in practice!
Hardly prolific!

it is common knowledge that willie used to re rack the balls up once the max wasn't on in practice. Thats why he had so many. A good player in his day full respect but not the best example you could of used tony lol.

why does a bowler need a manager !

The honour of most 147's in practice is Hendry, he even said that in an interview once, he said he stopped counting after 600 lol

lol - just demonstrating that the game is not just about potting and that it certainly helps to be even more successful if you have a tactical game to accompany it lol, you are right, he probably isn`t the best example

I guess a better example of the potter v an allround game was when I took Eddie Charlton to play against Keith Brewer for £1000 a side best of 15 at Terry Hunts club in sheffield.
The match started very open with both players going for everything, Eddie racing into a 5-0 lead, then the odd tactical shot, snooker each frame from keith and he turned it around to win the next 8 frames like that and an 8-5 win to Keith lol
Without doubt Eddie Charlton was the better potter but It was the player with the allround game that came out on top - Mr Brewer lol

Matt you don't have to mess around for an hour fudging, one good tactical shot is more often good enough.

can`t recall posting anything about this before - think it was the Hallford v Hunt match that was mentioned previously - it was extracted from one of my history books, between the first & second world wars, I keep quiet about the time I took Bill Werbiniuk to Hull and he was that pissed he couldn`t break in any game of pool, the opponents took the piss and all beat him cack handed, or the time I was reffing silvino francisco at the squinting cat, ollerton and I got his name so wrong he stuck his face right up to me and snarled - thoses were the days lol.

Good luck to the A side on Sunday.

Let's keep at 'em this time and not let them pull back a lead.

Good news is Johnny Mac will be at this match which is always a help to Notts.
Bad news is he is reportedly going to be warming the subs bench.

Sorry macca, but you know you still deserve plenty of stick :-)

Some people work to make a difference. Some people would rather just whine (plus they usually are the ones with a small penis). Think before you post - Which one are you?
