Just seen this interesting debate, so interesting in fact that i forfeited watching Jeremy Kyle today to read it. If we're to make progress in the region, and beyond, there needs to be things in place which the players are expected to realise. Firstly the forum started about team selection and subs. You cant have a strict "lose two and you're out" policy. Sometimes you play well and lose twice. Other times you play badly and win twice. Your opponent may have gone in-off the black, does that make you a better performer on the day than someone who was broke and dished against? And if you have such a policy what's the point in having a team captain? However i do believe that all players who attend should play some part in matches, even if its a token one frame in the final set. Expecting players to travel to God knows where, stand there all day and not get a single frame will discourage others from even bothering with county. As for Curtis, in fairness he was asked to attend and for the first 4 matches this season played no part, only getting a game in the last couple of matches. So he's done well in the youths and has now been rewarded for his long loyalty to Nottinghamshire pool. Others should take notice. Obviously there needs to be a system in place so that we dont lose youth players when they get to 18, as most counties do and i believe, with Shrek & co, we can lead the way in that respect. Im pleased to see people mention how the fledging Notts Tour can help the county, thats why it was set up in the first place. Granted, we all play regularly in local leagues but there's no better match practice than in a proper match enviroment over distance with prizes on the line. Ive been a little disappointed that some people, who claim to be this and that, havent put their money where there mouths are and had a go on a tour thats on their own doorstep. I believe that the Notts Tour should be supported by all of the county players and i believe it can help us get Notts back to the top of the region, in time. OK people have limited time at weekends but im sure the county players can spare 4 Saturdays a year? With the latter in mind im looking to work with Curtis, Steve at Phoenix and Jimmy to set up a proper Notts tournament calendar for 2009/10 after the current Notts Tour ends next month. With our own county tour, one-day events,, and a proper system to enable more youths to progress into the seniors, along with a good trialing system we can get Nottinghamshire back to the top. |

C'mon Neil, you don't come on the forum very often now, are a few claps the best you can do? Why not share an informative view maybe? Surely Notts B vice captain can enlighten us with his opinion (making sure you've checked with Ron first obviously) - maybe a helpful insight into the merits of using two bats instead of one? --Last edited by pk1962 on 2009-07-08 17:52:27 --

Like it John, two bats lol. The reason he needs two is because one is his breaking cue. Obviously all professional pool players need this so Neil has decided he must have one. So funny the breaking cue is used and not much happens or foul breaks. Great post lifefab, I think the Notts tour is a great idea and the county squads should look at it as a recruiting base for players. |

break cues are a good idea really. It's the one shot in a game of pool that is completely different from every other shot you will play in a frame. Very often players cues wont be conducive to a good break. (the most important shot you will play in a frame of pool ) i.e. Too heavy , or small tip etc. Also if you happen to have a good breaking action and are generating a lot of power then it protects the tip you play with. As for copying pros, you have to ask why they do certain things and very often its for very good reasons so if you want to improve n.f.f.c to maybe be good enough to get in the county squad then i would suggest being a bit less scornfull of people actually trying to improve themselves.

Nice try JP - but wrong again!!! Maybe look at getting your facts right first!! Not had a break cue for over 6 months and the only reason had to use one before was because had a 7mm tip and didn't fancy smashing a £350 cue up for the sake of a break.... Suppose you don't have to think about that if using one of those cheap left handed Argos cue's eh???? Anyway you will be glad to know that now I have a different cue and a break cue isn't required!!! Keep fishing JP - like the school and pool reports - Must try harder!!! --Last edited by NK on 2009-07-09 12:37:52 --

What has the price of anyones cue got to do with the price of fish ? Only a mug would spend that much on a cue. There are plenty of top players in the league that play with didtinctly average cues. Its how they feel not what they cost. |
